August: Dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

OCDS Shield

By Barbara Hempseed OCDS,
Christchurch President

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Carmel,

As we head into August there is much to consider, to think about and to celebrate. So many beautiful feasts, from The Transfiguration on the 6th, to Our Lady’s Assumption, which is being transferred to Sunday 16th, a Solemnity, Patroness of our country.

Along with the many other very familiar Saints we celebrate in August, let us pray for each other and for all the needs of our suffering world. So many suffering from the effects of war, earthquakes and weather events.

From these sufferings, O Lord, deliver us.

The First Sunday in August marks 44 years since the Foundation of our Community. The celebration for our Community this year will be tinged with sadness as it will be our last meeting at Carmel for a good while. But that also means that the Sisters’ building is going to happen very soon! Thanks be to God! Please pray that all goes well throughout.

We shall celebrate our 44 years, with Holy Mass on our meeting Sunday, 2nd August, at 2pm (after our business meeting and ongoing Formation). This timing will mean our Community Formation time could be shortened, so I ask you please to prepare the study before the meeting, and have your responses written down to share at Formation time.

Please bring a small plate to share for afternoon tea.

August is traditionally dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. With Mary Immaculate, let us adore, thank, implore and console the Most Beloved and Sacred Heart of Jesus in the most Blessed Sacrament.

May God bless you all in every way you need and desire.
