Our Lady with a golden halo

September: Dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows

OCDS Shield

By Barbara Hempseed OCDS,
Christchurch President

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Spring is in the air, full of hope and new beginnings. Let’s transfer those feelings to our Spiritual lives! We have some special feast days to be mindful of and to help us along, especially Our Lady’s birthday, the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, St Albert of Jerusalem, Lawgiver of the Carmelites, and the great Archangels.

Our recent elections have given us a new beginning for our Community, and with the grace and help of the Holy Spirit, Our Lady of Mt Carmel and our Carmelite Saints, may we build well on our strong foundations.

I thank our new Councillors for accepting election, and look forward to working with you for our Community. Our Council meeting of 24th August has confirmed all appointments, and we can report this to our Community.

I am sure you will all join me in thanking Mary for her faithful and untiring work as our President. She has soldered on through all sorts of difficulties with true Carmelite “stickability”. And to Megan, our Formator, and our Councillors, Christine, Marian and Lyn, Thankyou! My gratitude also to Karen for her work as Treasurer over many years, and to Lyn in her secretarial role. And to all of you who make our Community what it is and living what it means to be a Secular Discalced Carmelite…

Inspired by the teachings of St Teresa of Jesus and St John of the Cross, we seek union with God, through prayer and the Sacraments, living out the Carmelite Charism of prayer, contemplation and service in our daily lives, and as a Community of supportive brothers and sisters.

May God bless you all in every way you need and desire.
